Research suggests that the residents who refrain from attaching to place view the residential care facility as only temporary (i.e. hotel), despite the fact that their placement there is permanent. They forgo personalizing their room to strengthen the notion that home is someplace else. This gives them a sense of both control and belonging (Falk,1004).
