The circumstances in which an older person is moved into a residential care facility is based out of necessity, above that of aging, disease and trauma (Falk, 999). In this situation the resident and family have to navigate transition under abnormal stress. In an investigatory interview I conducted with a residential care social worker, the social worker observed the circumstance of transition is often unplanned. It is a result in a transfer of the resident from an acute care setting. There is often diminished choice, time and preparation to make this move.
